Job Skills / Requirements

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CLASSIFICATION: Prepares surfaces and applies paint and coatings to interior and exterior surfaces. Inspects equipment for safety, performs maintenance duties and monitors paint projects. May purchases equipment and paint. Refinishes wood surfaces and repairs masonry. Performs other duties as needed.

1. Prepares and paints surfaces by using sandpaper, sanding blocks and deglosser to scrape and
clean surfaces, filling holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster and other fillers, installing sheetrock, gathering the proper tools and paint to ensure proper bonding and using the spray painter machine when necessary.
2. Performs maintenance duties by moving bumper logs, sweeping and picking up trash, power washing, assisting with sign installment, maintaining the paint room and setting up painting supplies for painters and maintenance workers.
3. May assist in the purchase of material and equipment by monitoring inventory and product and keeping a record of products levels
4. May assist and/or monitors paint projects by assisting, directing maintenance projects, setting up scaffolding and ladders, maintaining equipment, prioritizing work orders, estimating materials and equipment requirements and completing assigned jobs.
5. Makes safety preparations by inspecting ladders, tools, and painting areas and posting paint signs to notify patrons of work in progress.
6. Refinishes wood surfaces and repairs masonry by staining, sealing, sanding and resealing
cabinets, book shelves, doors, counters and wood trims and replacing masonry and stucco surfaces.

Formal Education / Knowledge
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency. Experience One year experience as a Journey Level Painter. Certifications and Other Requirements Valid Driver’s License Reading Work requires the ability to read data sheets, directions, warning labels, and general correspondence. Math Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as some algebra. Writing Work requires the ability to write reports, records, and general correspondence. Work may require the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees.
Essential Functions and Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Regularly lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 110 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be capable of performing the essential job responsibilities and duties for shifts of equal to or greater than 10 hours per day and during overtime hours as needed by supervision.
  • Daily perform routine equipment maintenance
  • Use hand held equipment.

    Working Conditions

  • Work is labor intensive at times and involves repetitive actions.
  • Work will also involve climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Noise level may be loud at times and use of ear plugs may be required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving equipment and parts.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to vibration and performs repetitive motions.
  • The employee will be exposed to work on heights or using ladders and climbing over fixtures.
