Performs a variety of ground care and landscaping tasks aimed at enhancing the overall appearance of the resort exterior. These tasks may include watering, cutting and trimming, and fertilizing lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers. Also includes the proper care of equipment and tools including storage and repair. Performs other duties where applicable, such as cultivating planters, hanging flowers pots and indoor plants. Must always follow the rules and regulations as set forth by the latest Employee Handbook.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works scheduled shift, works weekends and holidays as needed. Waters lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers according to season, using automated or manual sprinkler systems, as well as hand held hoses. Mows lawns according to a preset schedule and seasonal variations using a variety of power and lawnmowers and edgers. Trims shrubs, hedges and trees according to accepted practices and seasonal requirements. Plants new shrubs, trees, flowers and other plants where required according to needs of resort and seasonal requirements. Fertilizes lawns, shrubs, flowers and other plants according to accepted practices and seasonal requirements. Reseeds lawn areas. Washes down or sweeps pool areas, parking lots, and other concrete or asphalt areas a required. Picks up dropped or wind blown debris on grounds using vacuum/blower or manual methods. Weeds when and where necessary, and using herbicide sprays insecticides on all plants and trees as needed. Inspects and adjusts sprinkler systems as required. Maintains equipment; mowers, edgers, blowers, electric trimmers, and all hand trimmers, clippers, edgers, and hoses. Properly stores equipment, chemicals, and fertilizers. Orders and picks up nursery, garden and other landscape supplies. Aligns pool and spa area furniture and cleans pool area daily, picking up trash and items left lying about. Conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times. Maintains proper dress code and keeps uniforms neat and clean and worn during working hours. Required to report hazardous conditions for the safety of all employees and guests, including placing wet floor signs in necessary areas around the property during inclement weather or as needed. Ability to accept constructive criticism and understand/follow posted work rules and procedures. Has the ability to follow directions from a supervisor and interact well with co-workers, subordinates and supervisors. Must sign or initial all time sheets, posted schedules, memos and other company documents as distributed by Management. Participates in all required health and OSHA safety meetings/classes. Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Vacation Resorts International’s standards. Performs any other various duties that may be assigned by the General Manager, Assistant Manager, or VRI Director of Resorts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for indefinite periods of time, use hands, talk, hear, and smell. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, climb or balance, crouch, bend or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be comfortable and able to work around particular scents such as paint, chemicals, perfumes, body odors, food, etc. May also be exposed to fumes or airborne particles such as printer cartridge powder, cleaning supplies, gasoline and car fumes, micro waves from a microwave oven and risk of radiation. Must be comfortable working in heat, cold or inclement weather for sustained periods of time.
A background and understanding of proper methods of ground care including knowledge of various lawn, plant and tree varieties. Experience with various ground care equipment such a mowers, trimmers, and edgers and an understanding of sprinkler systems. Knowledge of seasonal differences for ground care and the variety of seed, plants and trees used. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to understand and speak Basic English sentences. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Background check will be completed as a condition of employment. Must be dependable and be able to work without constant supervision. Must be comfortable around machinery and tolerant of heat and cold. Ability to learn quickly and work in fast paced position. Ability to apply common sense to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
