General Manager

We have been retained by the Waterloo Water Works (Waterloo, IA) to conduct and facilitate a search for General Manager to oversee all aspects of their water distribution system.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
Proactively communicate with the Board of Trustees on matters of regulatory and community interest; prepare budget estimates, manage expenses, approve AP and staff requests; propose rate case adjustments.
Must have strong leadership, communication, planning skills.
Must establish residency within Waterloo city limits within 6 months of hire.
Possession of an AWWA Water Operators Certificate or State of Iowa Water Operators Certificate is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering, environmental science, public administration or a closely related discipline.
Licensed Professional Engineer a plus, but not required.
Combination of 10 years equivalent education and experience in the water utility field with a proven record of advancement and success will be considered.
Must have strong analytical and operational management skills with additional strengths in customer service; excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to handle multiple projects.
Five years progressive managerial experience in a water utility or similar enterprise.
Knowledge of and/or experience in general business management, engineering, and familiarity with applicable U.S. EPA, Iowa DNR, and other federal and state laws pertaining to Water Works management.
Profit and Loss experience.
