Ever since I discovered photography years and years ago, I have been in love with creating beautiful images.
With the right light and sensitive timing, a photograph can convey so much more than words ever could. A photograph can move us to action, move us to tears, inspire us and preserve our memories.
One of the things I love best about photography is portraiture. My goal is to create portraits that are deep and true.
Whether a professional portrait, a family portrait or a woman who wants to experience a rite of beauty, I strive to create an environment of trust so we can collaborate on creating a meaningful portrait.
I began my career as a photojournalist at The Register-Guard in Eugene, Ore. after receiving my master's degree in journalism.
Five years later, when my husband and I moved to Seattle, I started Rosanne Olson Photography. Over the past 25 years I have collaborated with designers and art directors around the country, photographing for advertising campaigns such as the New York City Ballet, Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony and Children's Hospital. In 2008 I authored a book called This is Who I Am a book of photographs and essays that celebrates women and their stories.
I bring these years of experience and passion to each and every photo shoot I do.

Fine art photography is where my love of photography began.
I will never forget the first time I realized that the camera was the perfect creative medium for me. As a child, I had always sketched and created art. I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. But the magic of the camera swept me under its spell from the very first photography class I had when I was 23. Over the years my work has been exhibited by numerous galleries in one-person and group exhibits.
I am currently represented by the Robin Rice Gallery in New York City and Iris Gallery of Fine Art Photography located in both Boston and Aspen.
I have an upcoming exhibit of a new dream-based series called Rapture.
Samples of the work are located in "images" on this website. I will be exhibiting this work at the Robin Rice Gallery in New York from May 8 to June 16. The opening is May 8, 2013 from 5:30 to 8:30.
Over the years I have created several long-term collections including Pinhole Travels, a series of images from places around the world taken with a 4x5 pinhole camera.
The exposures ranged between three seconds and 20 minutes using Polaroid Type 55 film, which is no longer made. The images are soft and dreamlike, uninhabited by people.
Two other series I have created, which I exhibit together are 4+20 Blackbirds and Animal Dreams.
Both series are darkly poetic dream-inspired images of humans inhabiting animal forms.
