The Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Borneo. Founded in 1986 by Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas, OFI focuses on orangutan rescue, rehabilitation, and repatriation, as well as habitat protection and restoration. They work closely with the Indonesian government and local communities to expand national parks, establish reserves, and replant degraded forest areas to create permanent orangutan habitats. OFI also raises awareness about the plight of orangutans and other wildlife species through outreach and education programs. With over 50 years of experience in the field, OFI has saved hundreds of captive and orphaned orangutans and protected 1.5 million acres of rainforest habitat. You can support their work by participating in their Foster Parent Program, which helps care for displaced and orphaned orangutans during their rehabilitation process.
