Position Title: Landscape Horticulture Manager

Reports To: Director of Landscaping

FLSA Status: Exempt

Primary Function: This position oversees all day-to-day operational aspects of the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) Medians landscape maintenance business for A SAFEHAVEN LANDSCAPING. The Horticulturist manages and maintains the integrity of all perennial beds, turf areas, and overall tree health on assigned CDOT medians. In addition, the Horticulture Manager assists with employee scheduling and horticulture training .

The Horticulture Manager also ensures that overall operational performance targets are achieved in relation to service quality, contract (project) costs, and customer expectations of the CDOT landscape maintenance business.








Job Requirements:

Responsibilities:

●  Prepare weekly Horticulturist reports for clients

●  Prepare monthly Arborist reports

●  Inspect, analyze, and recommend solutions to issues on CDOT medians

●  Manages and supports overall plant health for all planting bed medians, including fertilization, watering, and integrated pest management

●  Oversee all chemical applications and spray logs in accordance with a landscape business

●  Coordinate, manage and distribute material and supply procurement for CDOT Medians

●  Establishes and maintains high horticultural standards and practices; providing direction, training and motivation for landscape staff

●  Maintain and document daily site visits via CDOT provided forms, Plan work schedules, hours, areas of work, and job duties to ensure adequate services are rendered for CDOT Medians

●  Report unsafe conditions and conduct research to improve service quality and safety standards

●  Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of company vehicles, equipment and tools

●  Promote and maintain safe working conditions

●  Foster a team atmosphere among managers and crew members

●  Create accurate cost estimates and evaluate cost control

●  Establish and annually review standards and work procedures for all staff

●  Maintain and support Operational goals and objectives

●  Participate in snow removal operations where needed.

●  Other duties as assigned by Director

Other Abilities:

●  Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly-organized

●  Ability to use equipment and materials properly (i.e., gardening and small power tools)

●  Ability to work in all weather conditions

●  Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

●  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

●  Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, and internet


Qualifications:

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree and/or Associates in Horticulture or related field from four or two-year College or University

Five years related experience

Preferred two years’ experience in a management type position


Certificates/Licenses Required

State Pesticide Applicator's license obtained within 90 days of employment

International Society of Arboriculture Certification within 90 days of employment

 Valid driver's license
