Poco’s on the Boulevard has been a popular Kansas City dinning experience since arriving on the scene in 2006.

Lorenza “Poco” Gutierrez has developed a signature culinary style by blending Southwestern flare with her traditional Latin roots. From fiery homemade tomato based salsas to her signature verde salsa that combines cilantro and avocado, her ability to creatively blend these two cultures gives Poco’s a unique yet simple flavor. Whether it’s a traditional Mexican breakfast of huevos rancheros or chilaquiles; tortas or fish tacos for lunch; grilled rack of lamb with tequila, blue agave and mission figs for a fabulous gourmet dinner Poco’s has something to satisfy even the most sophisticated palate.

“Poco” discovered her culinary talents at the young age of 10 while cooking for her large family in her native Mexico. She began perfecting those skills as a teenager and young adult by working as a cook for a large catering company. Immigrating to the U.S. in 1991 she began her vision of sharing her unique talent, spending the next 15 years as a chef at the Grille on Broadway specializing in various creations of fresh fish. One day, while having breakfast with her granddaughter at the old Waid’s restaurant, she was approached by the owner who indicated he wanted to get out of the business. “We started negotiating then and there”, says “Poco”. Her dream of becoming an owner of her own restaurant was finally conceived.

The dream became reality in late 2006 when Poco’s on the Boulevard opened its doors. Her notoriety has certainly grown. Her mantra “I don’t want to be famous, I just want people to enjoy my food” remains steadfast.
Her awards include:

Kansas City Star’s best fish tacos, Dec. 2007, Best chilaquiles, Dec. 2006 and
Best huevos rancheros, Oct. 2006.
