The Braille Institute is a nonprofit organization that provides free services, programs, and classes for individuals of all ages who are blind or visually impaired. They offer a wide range of resources and support to help individuals with low vision or no vision maintain their independence and live fulfilling lives. Their services include remote assistance, in-home support, low vision rehabilitation, music programs, orientation and mobility training, technology education, and a telephone reader program. They also have programs specifically designed for youth, such as the Braille Challenge and Cane Quest, as well as child development services. The Braille Institute operates several locations throughout Southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego, and offers a comprehensive library with Braille books, audio books, digital books, computers, and more. Donations and volunteers are welcome to support their mission.
